The real Karate Kid has always been Johnny Lawrence: member and sensei of Cobra Kai, Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang karate dojos. The wildly successful “Cobra Kai” reached its series finale on Netflix on Feb. 13, but the show was far from the start of Lawrence’s journey.

In the final scene, Daniel attempts to catch a fly with chopsticks like Mr. Miyagi challenged him to do in The Karate Kid. Johnny comes and squishes the fly with his hands while they are out for lunch, once again illustrating that their friendship is based on differences.

Cobra Ka i Season 6 Part 3 also culminates Johnny’s emotional journey as he is finally able to overcome his childhood trauma that was caused by abuse at the hands of his mentor, John Kreese. Talking about how the arc concludes in the finale, Schlossberg said:

It was often unclear what Johnny would do when Cobra Kai ended, but the show has subtly provided an answer for his Karate Kid: Legends-era role.

Ralph Macchio, who rose to fame after playing Daniel LaRusso in The Karate Kid and is now appearing in the spin-off Cobra Kai, has left viewers shocked after they learned how old he really is
