Israel agreed to return 15 Palestinian bodies for each hostage recovered, according to the ceasefire terms. It’s unclear if the bodies released Thursday were of Palestinian detainees who died in Israeli custody or bodies taken from Gaza by Israeli troops during the war.

Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Monday that Hamas will be given a “two-month ultimatum” by US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” to disarm. “The Board of Peace will issue a two-month ultimatum to Hamas to disarm,” Smotrich said in comments carried by the local newspaper Makor Rishon.

This was precisely Israel’s concern going into the Trump-brokered Gaza ceasefire—that the world would expect Israel to halt all military activity while doing nothing to enforce Hamas compliance (beyond issuing toothless condemnations), thus allowing the terror group to reestablish and recuperate.
