The Brutalist' filmmaker Brady Corbet earned the Golden Globe for best movie directing over nominees Jacques Audiard, Sean Baker, Edward Berger, Coralie Fargeat and Payal Kapadia at the Jan. 5 ceremony hosted by Nikki Glaser in Los Angeles.

"No one was asking for a three and a half hour film about a mid-century designer, on 70mm, but it works," the filmmaker said.

The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards delivered its fair share of powerful speeches, but a standout of the evening was Brady Corbet, who won Best Director, Motion Picture for The Brutalist.

The Brutalist took home one of the most prestigious awards of the night at the Golden Globes when it was honored with Best Picture in the Drama category on Sunday night.
