Trump has rescinded the Biden administration’s sanctions against Israelis accused of violence in the territory.

Palestinian construction magnate and activist Samer Khoury gave credit to President Donald Trump for securing the cease-fire and hostage-release deal underway between Israel and Hamas, while downplaying President Joe Biden’s willingness to engage.

Trump also canceled a Biden order blocking sanctions on the International Criminal Court amid his flurry of day-one executive orders.

The ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas stretched into a fifth day on Thursday. Humanitarian aid groups are working to surge food and supplies to the war-ravaged territory as Palestinians scour through mountains of rubble looking for bodies of those killed by Israeli bombardments during the 15-month war.

The Israeli military launched a large raid in the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, killing nine people and injuring 40 others, according to Palestinian health officials.

For his second and last term, Trump has appointed an ambassador in Mike Huckabee, who believes there is no such thing as a Palestinian, a defence secretary in Pete Hegseth, who said a Third Temple should be built on the ruins of Al Aqsa mosque, and a peace envoy in Steve Witkoff who wants to "relocate Gazans to Indonesia".

"Everyone recognizes that the Palestinian issue shouldn't be left behind," an expert told Newsweek. "So there must be progress on this."
