Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood accepted an invitation to the Home Run Derby on Thursday afternoon. He then celebrated with a five-hit performance in an 11-7 win against the Detroit Tigers that established a new piece of franchise history.

James Wood had five hits that included his 23rd home run, Paul DeJong added a three-run blast and the Washington Nationals hung on to defeat the Detroit Tigers 11-7 on Thursday night, taking the rubber game of the series.

Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood became the third player to announce he will take part in the Home Run Derby.The derby will be held on July 14, the night before the All-Star Game, at Truist Park in Atlanta.
