The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said on Thursday it has referred to the Justice Department a complaint against Snap Inc that alleges its messaging app Snapchat used an artificial-intelligence chatbot that harmed young users.

Snap shares closed down 5% on Thursday after the Federal Trade Commission said it would refer a complaint against the company to the Department of Justice.

The Commission said that Snapchat's My AI feature presented 'risks and harms to young users of the application,' while Snap says that the complaint 'is based on inaccuracies, and lacks concrete evidence.

U.S. automaker General Motors will be banned for five years from disclosing consumers' sensitive geolocation and driver behavior data to consumer reporting agencies, the Federal Trade Commission said in a statement on Thursday.

“GM monitored and sold people’s precise geolocation data and driver behavior information, sometimes as often as every three seconds,” FTC Chair Lina Khan said in a statement. “With this action, the FTC is safeguarding Americans’ privacy and protecting people from unchecked surveillance.”

GoDaddy will implement new information-security programs to settle charges that the technology platform failed to secure its website-hosting services and protect its customers from attacks, the Federal Trade Commission said.

The website hosting company was accused of failing to implement robust enough security measures from at least 2018.
