A magnitude 3.0 earthquake centered in New Jersey briefly shook NYC Saturday night, prompting emergency guidance but no major damage.

The quake's epicenter was in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. No injuries or structural damage was reported shortly afterward, said Jonathan Tytell, a geophysicist at the USGS.

A small earthquake rattled the New York metropolitan area Saturday night. The U.S. Geological Survey said the tremor had a magnitude of 3.0. It hit in the New Jersey suburb of Hasbrouck Heights, less than 8 miles west of Central Park, at a depth of about 6.2 miles.
