Hurricane Erin continues its northerly track and is set to deliver impacts to the beaches in New Jersey and Delaware.
Hurricane Erin, now a Category 2 storm, has triggered a state of emergency in North Carolina, where residents and visitors along the Outer Banks are under evacuation orders. The Outer Banks is also under a tropical storm warning; Erin is forecast to hit the islands with heavy rain and rough winds on Wednesday night.
"The pervasive nature of microplastic pollution presents a complex legal challenge. While international treaties address marine plastic debris, the enforcement and regulation of microplastics specifically are still developing," Arroyo Vargas observed.
Flesh-eating bacteria is spreading to more beaches. The Vibrio vulnificus bacteria is usually found in beaches along the Gulf Coast. But the eastern seaboard is now seeing an uptick in cases. Experts believe climate change is helping the germs spread north.
