In July 2024, two zebras gave birth within two weeks of each other, including 5-year-old Safara's first at Hattiesburg Zoo. A male foal was born July 29, 2024, to Safara and father, 8-year-old Bakari.

The zebra foals — a male born May 21 and a female born June 12—are the zoo’s newest additions, according to the Cape May County Park and Zoo’s Facebook post.

Lydia and Ziggy, members of the zoo's Grant's zebra herd, welcomed their baby boy on May 21 (see below photo). He is the first male zebra foal to be born at the zoo in recent years.
