EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — With California's severe drought in mind, the Eldorado National Forest is increasing its fire restrictions. Effective Monday, there will be a forestwide campfire ban.
At the peak of the summer-vacation camping season, restrictions on campfires go into effect Monday across Tahoe National Forest and much of California’s 20 million acres of national forests.
In 20 years of record keeping, there has not been a single instance of a campfire escaping from one of those sites and causing a wildfire, said Joe Flannery, a Tahoe National Forest spokesman.
