On the final regular-season weekend for most college football team, there were some important highs and lows. A look at the winners and losers.
Ohio State’s defense held Michigan without a touchdown, although the Wolverines got out to 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Michigan’s freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood was ineffective as he went 8-for-18 passing with 63 yards and an interception which sealed the game for the Buckeyes.
Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate played a crucial role in Ohio State's 27-9 victory over Michigan, despite not being at full strength.
Northwestern traveled to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini, and conditions were extreme on Saturday night, with a reported eight inches of snow already—the most in Gies Memorial Stadium history, according to Fox Sports.
Bryce Underwood was 8-for-18 passing for 63 yards, while Julian Sayin threw 3 TDs and Bo Jackson ran for 117 yards as Ohio State dominated Michigan.
But it took Oregon just three plays to strike back with a definitive blow in the form of a 64-yard catch-and-run from Dante Moore to Malik Benson. At the same time, the Sooners were busy outlasting LSU 17-13 in an ugly game that required OU's offense to wake up late.
There were no superhero moments, though, from the former Belleville High star on Saturday in Michigan’s regular season finale against its archrival. Underwood threw for a season-low 63 yards on 8-of-18 passing in the 27-9 loss to No. 1 Ohio State.
