A pair of Iowa National Guard soldiers were killed during a recent attack in Syria, the governor's office announced during a press conference. Iowa National Guard Major General Stephen Osborn said the two unnamed soldiers were killed Saturday, Dec. 13, by a "lone ISIS gunman in Syria."

The Hawkeyes lost to No. 4 Iowa State in a close game, showing a lot of imrpovement from their first road loss at Michigan. Still, Iowa doesn't believe in moral victories, and are determined to show more promise in final three nonconference games of the season.

However, the biggest surprise this season has been guard Killyan Toure. Part of a stellar freshman class that includes fellow guards Xzavion Mitchell, Anthony Rise and Jamarion Batemon and center Dominykas Pleta, not much was expected of the French product out of the gate.

The Hawkeyes had chances against Iowa State, but fell just short. The fight and effort has kept Iowa in the CBS Sports Top 25 Rankings.

The Lions have won three straight and they may be catching the Hawkeyes at the right time. If there was ever an opportunity to upset No. 11 Iowa, it's now. Coming off their loss in the Cy-Hawk rivalry game, head coach Jan Jensen needs two players in particular to get back on track.
